Man throws acid on wife, daughters-inflicts serious injuries

Tumakuru, Feb 8: Ranganath (32), a resident of Gubbi taluk of the district disfigured faces and parts of the bodies of his wife, Jayalaxmi (26) and daughters, Meghana (10) and Lata (4) in a fit of rage over family quarrel.

Ranganath, who had fled after committing this crime early morning on Saturday February 7, was arrested by evening, policemen said.

The faces of Jayalaxmi and Meghana suffered so many burns that their faces are beyond recognition. Both of them are being treated in the district hospital in the town.

Ranganath had married Jayalaxmi 12 years ago. The couple has three daughters. Since last couple of years, Ranganath had developed the habit of getting fully drunk and starting commotion in the house. Fed up by his addiction to liquor, Jayalaxmi had shifted to her sister's house in Yallapura Gate sometime back along with her children. Ranganath often visited his wife and children here, and fought with his wife. He had repeatedly threatened to throw acid on his wife, and did what he said on Saturday morning..

The police said that the acid got sprayed on Meghana and Lata when Ranganath splashed acid on his wife's face. MLAs, S Rafique Ahmed and S R Srinivas, zilla panchayat chief executive officer, Govindaraju, and deputy director in the department of women and child development, Nanje Gowda, visited the victims at the hospital and instilled confidence in them.
