Mangalore, Jan 11: In view of the communal tensions that have been marring the coastal districts in the past few months, the Peoples Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) will organise a public meeting at NGO Hall, Hampankatta here on Sunday January 14 at 5 pm.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday January 10, PUCL president P B D'Sa said that the subject of the meeting will be ‘Fate of Secularism in the Fast Spreading Communalism in the Coastal Districts.’

PUCL Karnataka chief secretary Dr V Laxmi Narayan, thinker G Rajashekhar from Udupi, PUCL state committee member Prof Ramdas Rao, vice-president Prof Muzaffer Assadi, Samanvaya director Dr Ronald Cutinho and Mangalore University HOD of Political Science Dr P L Dharma will participate in the meeting. The meet will be presided over by PUCL Dakshina Kannada district president P B D’Sa.

The meeting aims at creating awareness and starting a debate among the citizens of the coastal districts about the disturbed conditions existing here and the growing communal disturbances accompanied by violence and blood shed.

There will be discussions on such points as ways to achieve goals of a nation in a democratic setup and the relevance of principles of non-violence preached by Mahatma Gandhi in today’s scenario.

The meeting is open to all.
