AAP falls short of fund collection target

New Delhi, Feb 8 (PTI): Aam Aadmi Party might be frontrunner in the race to take over the reins in Delhi but it has fallen way short of achieving its target of collecting Rs 30 crore before the February 7 polling.

With around Rs 18 crore in its kitty, AAP has fallen short of its target of collecting Rs 30 crore before the elections, despite employing a number of innovative initiatives like fundraiser dinners, 'Coffee with Kejriwal', and 'Selfie with Mufflerman'.

However, the party has taken it in a positive stride and refused to pin the blame on its donors.

"Our target was raising over Rs 30 crore by the polling day and we haven't been able to cross that, but it's also true that whatever we have done is in just two months," said AAP's fund collection in-charge Arvind Jha.

In the 2013 elections, the party had to ask people to stop giving money as donations saw a rise.

Elaborating further, Jha said, "One must not forget that we started in late November which is much shorter a span of time than we had with us in 2013."

He said data showed that the party had more small token donors, a symbol of its "increasing base" both inside and outside India.

"It's a reaffirmation of the fact that we accept all kind of donations and in the most transparent way possible," Jha told PTI.

The AAP had been using improved ways of fund collection, one of which is an 'App' called "Aap Ka Daan" created by Prasenjit Pati, a Bhubaneswar-based volunteer who was a junior of party convener Arvind Kejriwal at IIT-Kharagpur.

"The app was created in order to reduce the hassles in the donation process as there were a number of small token donors who could not contribute to the party online," said Pati.

Asked whether there was any kind of "pressure" from the party leadership to gather more funds, Jha said, "The pressure is not from the top but from within the fund collection team."

The party's fund collection will continue till a decision is arrived at by the central leadership of the party, he said.

Whose MLAs are not crorepatis??We have given everybody so let AAP take something I dont expect them to be Saints. But Eat what is necessary. AAP can do good things untill they dont receive funds from Ambanis and TATAs. These industrialists looted the country. Both BJP and congress benefitted. I am sure Modi will take Indiaa GDP to heighest and Sharemarket to new heights. But so many poor will come to streets becos of so called industrialists. And we HiFi and educated people are not bothered about poor or farmers. Educated people are worst than uneducated and you can see the proof in comments you get here in DW.

All secular parties abide by the constitution are acceptable to us. Among them no one is untouchable. We are committed not to Congress ideology but secular ideology. Therefore AAP likely victory celebration. Not at all sad for Congress loss.

    Vellano1,
If AAP, BJP & Congress (ABC) of Indian Politics is contesting in Karnataka, then we see the party among secular, who is likely to win, we support them.
We voted in the same pattern, this time and last time at Mangalore also.
We are firmly committed to constitutionally defined secularism, not to congress ideology.

Vallu uncle I respect your opinion.. But I disagree to it! "Kompryaak mhov(honey) laanvk nazo" .. and secondly "who wins - we will vote him - is other way of saying - GEDDETTINA BAALA HIDIYUVUDU - and amounts to ditching".. I am happy we are exploring other options, but perceving others as commnal and one section as secular - IS NOT ME! I go behind every incidence and see who is getting benefitted - like recent curch attack - it has helped only congress or AAP! but it makes BJP communal! that is wrong perception.. but anyways, yes, do see beyond congress.. they need to know the reasl value of vote! :) this is all I was saying from beginning..!

Just once show the great nation India that, Governance is possible through non-corruption, transparency, without prior political mileage and the most with simple low profile but educated young people.
Hard way but become easier as you go ahead. After all more than 60% people in India are poor.
The most disturbing fact is the only 5-10% rich high class people ruling the rest 90%. Is it democracy or democrazy!!!remember do not go to gather paper wealth....take away with VIP culture...then people will fully support you.

Fund raising? Modi Sarkar or Congress Sarkar will know it better.
But we know A.K. led AAP will not take advice from them.
2013 like time will come,AAP will get enough donors, you only work to prove your worth! Good parties with God's blessings will not suffer!
