Mangalore, Jan 11: The coastal Karnataka, particularly the coastal region of erstwhile Dakshina Kannada district is a very potential area for tourism development.  However, this potential has hitherto been ignored and given much importance for promotion of tourism in this region.

Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has time and again been urging the union government to encash the potentiality of the region which is nature's gift.

In this regard KCCI has organized a workshop on "Tourism Development in Coastal Karnataka" at the meeting hall of KCCI Exim Facilitation Centre" at the Chamber Building here on Saturday January 13.

The workshop will be inaugurated by deputy commissioner M Maheshwar Rao.  MLAs Yogish Bhat, Krishna Palemar and MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik will grace the occasion as guest of honour.  They would preside over the sessions on important subjects like tourist expectations, planning and policy, health and hygiene etc.

Eminent speakers like Dr C R Kamath, director of Corp bank, Jesper Hourgaard of Sarena Spa Pvt Ltd, Eulalia M D'Souza of Lia Travels and Tours, J R Lobo, deputy project director of KUDCEMP, M R Vasudeva, director of Mangalore airport, William Pais, journalist, John Clarke, Dr L C Soans and Ranjit Shankar, general manager of Hotel Taj Manjarun will deliver speeches on the occasion.
