Snooker: ONGC, BPCL in title round


Bengaluru, Feb 10 (IANS): ONGC and BPCL entered the snooker team event final here Tuesday in the 11th Petroleum Sports Promotion Board's inter-unit championship.

While ONGC, represented by national champion Pankaj Advani and Varun Madan easily beat GAIL 4-0, BPCL edged past IOCL 4-3 in the semifinals.

As per the format, three players from each side play two frames each, and team which wins four frames first is declared the winner. In case of a tie (3 frames each) then both teams nominate one player to play the seventh and deciding frame.

The results:

Quarterfinals: GAIL beat MRPL 4-0: Himanshu Jain bt Malateesh 2-0; Ketan Chawla bt AMuralidhar 2-0. BPCL beat OIL 4-0: Manan Chandra bt JK Kotaki 2-0; Devendra Joshi bt S Hazari 2-0.

Semifinals: ONGC beat GAIL 4-0: Pankaj Advani bt Himanshu Jain 2-0; Varun Madan bt Ketan Chawla 2-0. BPCL beat IOCL 4-3: Manan Chandra tied with Ishpreet Chaddha 1-1; Devendra Joshi tied with Dhvaj Haria 1-1; Shahbaaz Khan tied with Brijesh Damani 1-1. Deciding Frame: Shahbaaz Khan bt Brijesh Damani.
