USWAS media release

Dubai, Jan 13: Back home it is the season of Vodlem Fests (parish feasts) and Dubai too is not far behind in observing them.

The most-awaited event of the USWAS organization - 'Shirva Vholddlem Fest 2007'-  will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2007 from 8 pm onwards in Al Nasr Leisureland (Poolside). 

USWAS, a group of Shirva parishioners residing in the UAE, are celebrating this event for the fifth consecutive year. 

USWAS in UAE was formed on December 20, 2002 under the able guidance of founder president Franky D'souza.  Currently USWAS has 170 active members and has 600 Shirva Parishioners residing all over UAE. 

The main aim of USWAS is to extend support and help to the  family members of USWAS and Shirva parishioners in the UAE and to the society around us who are in dire need or expecting a helping hand. So far USWAS has succeeded in doing so.
The tremendous success of the previous years' Fest Celebrations cannot be forgotten with the memories of the visiting Konkani artistes Henry D'Souza and Aparna Mayekar captured the hearts of the whole crowd with their melodious voices. in 2003, with Victor Concesso, Kenny and Succrene in 2004, with Shirva's local talents in 2005 and 2006 under the able organization of USWAS.

This year too, USWAS is geared up to produce an entertaining performance in an evening of glitz and glamour with local talents and artistes flown in from Kuwait.

Two Konkani artistes - Music Maestro Adrian Gomes who hails from Shirva and the popular heartthrob at every Middle Eastern Konkani event - Rony D'cunha, a versatile singer who  will be the centre of attraction of the event. They will be flying in from Kuwait specially for this occasion.

Adrian Gomes has released Konkani Instrumental CD's and Cassettes named "A tribute to the Konkani Composers".  He also has composed music and conducted orchestra for various musical nites in Konkani and other languages, He is a master of all major musical instruments.

He had also the privilege of rendering music to renowned orchestras and has performed for great Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil screen playback singers and directors like O P Nayyar, Dr P Susheela, Vasundhara Das and others, oth in India and in the Middle East. This time Adrian has promised his magical best in music on stage for the Fest Celebration.

Rony D'cunha also has rendered his voice for various musical CD's and Cassettes. He will enthrall the listeners with his sensational voice and take them to the dance floor that evening.

Canute Mathias, singing talent of Shirva also will render his melodious voice for the evening.  Canute has performed for various musical programmes and he assures the best of his performances this time.

Asha Maben (Rego), another singing sensation from Shirva will also accompany Rony and Canute on stage that evening. Asha also has performed for Mandd Sobhann, Puttur Narasimha Nayak and for Radio programmes.

Another attraction of the evening will be the performance of young talented Andrea D'souza from Shirva who recently won the Jodi No1 dance competition in the U.A.E.  Andria is a fantastic dance performer and at the same time she has a melodious voice. She will showcase her talent in both dance and singing fields.

Joy Almeida, a budding local talent will also join Rony, Asha, Canute and Andrea with his sweet voice.

All the above artistes are currently busy preparing to bring out the best in musical entertainment.

The evening's show will be hosted by Ronald Olivera. He has hosted (as an MC) several programmrs in different languages, Konkani, English, Hindi and is fluent in Tulu and Kannada as well. He remembers at least 7 programmes he handled for South Indian artistes, like Nader Shah, K Nazir and Mohammed Aslam Saudi. He is well known as an MC all over the Gulf, the most recent being 'Konkan Showers' in Dubai.

He has associated himself with the programes of Wilfy Rebimbus, Claud D' Souza, Henry D' Souza, Mick-Max, Maxim Pereira and for his brother, Wilson.

The evening will have lots of games, spot prizes, dances from local talents and Skits from 'Boscambegars' .

A lavish buffet dinner will be served, as also you can enjoy lots and lots of music and entertainment all evening long.
On the family front, Vhoddlem Fest perhaps is the only feast where relatives and friends converge. Come and participate in the 'Shirva Vhoddlem Fest 2007' event, held for a cause.

Note : On this occasion USWAS also intends to honour some outstanding Shirva Parishioners residing in the UAE who have excelled in various fields like sports, education or other extra-curricular activities. USWAS invites nominations for the same and the following committee members could be contacted for this purpose.
