Top Karbi militant arrested in Assam

Guwahati, Feb 11 (IANS): Security forces Wednesday nabbed the self-styled chairman of a Karbi militant outfit in Assam, the army said.

Karbi Peoples' Liberation Tigers (KPLT) chairman Dondri Kramsa alias Sing Hanse was arrested from Dakmuka area in Karbi Anglong district Tuesday night, said a statement issued by the army.

The army's Red Horns division along with police launched an operation in Dakmuka in which the militant was nabbed.

One .22 pistol with magazine and 10 rounds of ammunition were recovered from him.

The KPLT had been carrying out extortion drives in Karbi Anglong, and also trying to revive itself by conducting recruitment drives.

The KPLT is a breakaway faction of the erstwhile Karbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF), which was formed in 2011.

The KLNLF had laid down arms and ammunition in 2010 and 25 cadres floated the new organisation called KPLT.

The outfit had killed Hamren Superintendent of Police Nitya Nanda Goswami and his security officer during an anti-insurgency operation in June last year.
