FIFA president to visit Kenya in March


Nairobi, Feb 12 (IANS): FIFA president Sepp Blatter will visit Kenya in March to open a stadium that was refurbished by world football's governing body.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Sam Nyamweya told journalists here Wednesday that Blatter will visit Kenya to open the 5,000-seater Moi Stadium in the city of Kisumu, reports Xinhua.

FIFA funded the laying of its artificial playing surface.

The world football governing body provided over $600,000 dollars for the refurbishment of the arena that will see the most prominent sporting arena in western Kenya elevated to international standards.

The funds were provided through FIFA's GOAL project, which is meant to facilitate FIFA member countries with funds to implement projects designed to develop football in their countries.

The implementation of project, which was overseen by FKF and involved the installation of an artificial turf on the football pitch, commenced in August 2012.
