Mangalore, Jan 14: With the solemn installation of the cross which was brought to the TMA Pai International Convention Centre, MG Road after traveling through 15 ICYM wards of the ICYM Mangalore diocese, the grand finale of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations was set in motion.

Earlier Bishop Leo Cornelio Chairman, CBCI, Commission for Youth, New Delhi celebrated mass in Milagres Church. A colourful procession with a tableau and the cross passed through the streets of the city and reached the venue of the celebrations.

General Secretary, AICC, New Delhi Margaret Alva who inaugurated the celebrations said that two third of India’s population consists of people below 45 years, but it is sad to note that majority of the nations’ leaders are around the age of 70. The youth do not take active leadership, she lamented.

There is a development gap; a gap between the rich and poor, halves and the have-nots. There is somewhere a failure found in us. The failure is to refuse to change.

Addressing the youth, Alva said “Don’t act to the reality, but effectively react. It is easy to be passive, but the youth should be agents of change. You should be the voice of the voiceless. No successful country has had a history where its youth ran away from reality. India does not need IAS officers, doctors and engineers but needs well-trained leaders.”
