Nigerian forces repel Boko Haram attack

Abuja, Feb 14 (IANS): Government forces repelled an attack by Boko Haram militants in Nigeria's Gombe city Saturday, witnesses said.

The militants stormed Dadin Kowa, about three km from Gombe, a city in the northeastern part of the country, with heavy firing, Xinhua news agency reported citing Abu Hassan, one of the witnesses.

But government forces, made up of the Nigerian military and mobile police, quickly responded to the attack, he added.

The attack came barely one week after defence authorities vowed to crush the militant group in the West African country.
