Three militants nabbed in Assam

Guwahati, Feb 15 (IANS): Security forces Sunday dealt a major blow to the Karbi Peoples' Liberation Tiger (KPLT) militant group by arresting two of its leaders and a cadre.

Defence spokesman Lt. Col. Suneet Newton said a joint team of the army and the police launched an operation in Karbirongsope village of the district and apprehended Birton Timung alias Rock, Hemai Singh Kro alias Mysing and Langtuk Rohang.

He said the operation was launched early Sunday based on specific information.

Last Tuesday, a joint team of the army and the police had nabbed the outfit's chairman Dondri Kramsa alias Sing Hanse from Dokmoka area of the Karbi Anglong district.

While Timung is the finance secretary of the outfit, Kro is the auditor, Newton said.

"One AK Rifle, two pistols along with assorted ammunition including other incriminating documents were also recovered from the hardcore terrorists," said the defence spokesman.

The official said the army and the police have launched a massive combing operation to flush out KPLT militants from the vast West Karbi Anglong area.
