Singapore PM's prostate cancer surgery successful

Singapore, Feb 16 (IANS): Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's prostate cancer surgery was conducted successfully and he is now recovering, an official statement said Monday.

"The surgery went very smoothly, and he is expected to recover fully," Singapore General Hospital's lead urologist professor Christopher Cheng, who operated on Hsien Loong, said.

The doctor said that Hsien Loong's prostate cancer diagnosis and his previous bout of lymphoma in 1992 were not related, The Straits Times reported.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Sunday said that Hsien Loong had been diagnosed with prostate cancer in January.

He underwent surgery to remove his prostate gland Monday morning.
