Panaji, Jan 18: Refusing to toe the line of Congress to refer the regional plan 2011 to the experts, the anti-regional plan activists have decided to gherao all the legislators during their public functions.
 
The anti-regional plan 2011 rally held in Margao town, 33 kms away from here, evoked unexpected response with people literally chocking the city roads. Historic rally at Lohia Maidan held this evening had the activists chalking out extensive agitation against the plan, which fears to rob Goa of its beauty.

"The message is loud and clear. Either you scrap the regional plan or else we will scrap you," Dr Oscar Rebello, convenor, Goa Bachao Andolan (GBA), which spearheads the agitation told 10,000-odd crowd.

The agitators refused to accept Congress' and state government's stand to refer the regional plan 2011 to the experts committee and adopt it with the modifications. "We demand that the plan be scrapped immediately. If they fail to do so, the legislators, whatever political outfit they may represent, will face the consequences," Rebello said.

Agitation attains importance as Goa is in the year of electioneering with state legislative assembly and panchayat elections scheduled, mid-this year.

"No elected representative has a right to play with Goa's serenity. We have elected them to protect Goa and not to destroy it," Rebello said.

The rally had speakers laying scathing attack on the politicians, moreover, current Pratapsingh Rane government for their act of adopting the controversial document.
