Six policemen killed in Afghanistan


Kabul, Feb 16 (IANS): At least six police personnel were killed Monday in an attack by insurgents at a house in Afghanistan's Kandahar province, police said.

"The insurgents carried out a tactical attack. They initiated a blast in a house. After a police unit arrived in the area, the gunmen fired at them, leaving two police officers and four of their colleagues killed," a police source told Xinhua.

Samim Khpalwak, a provincial government spokesperson, said the attack took place at around 4 p.m. in Bari Manda locality of Maywand district. "An investigation was launched into the incident, and security forces have launched a manhunt in the area to nab the fleeing culprits," Khpalwak said.

Taliban insurgent group was blamed for the killing.
