UP policeman shoots at youth for not stopping car

Lucknow, Feb 17 (IANS): A policeman in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district shot at a youth as he promptly did not stop his car when he was flagged down, an official said.

The incident took place Monday night near Amargarh Chowki in Jehangirabad area of the district.

During routine checking, Station House Officer (SHO) Ashok Kumar signalled a car to stop.

Pushpendra slowed down but by the time it halted, it went past the police official by a few metres.

This enraged the police sub-inspector who walked down to the car and shot at Pushpendra from point blank range.

The police man fled after a mob gathered at the spot.

The injured man has been taken to Ghaziabad where his condition is stated to be critical.

Senior Superintendent of Police Anantdeo Tiwari said the sub-inspector has been suspended and action will be taken against him.
