DAMMAM, 19 January 2007 — A train conductor and his assistant were killed when a Dammam-bound train collided with a truck at an unmanned desert crossing 45 kilometers to the west of Hofuf yesterday afternoon, according to a press statement of the Saudi Railways Organization (SRO).
“The accident occurred at Kilo 180-181, 45 kilometers before reaching the Hofuf railway station resulting in the death of the engine driver, Ahmed ibn Jassem Al-Zouri, and his assistant Ibrahim ibn Abdullah Al-Rashid, both Saudis, besides lightly injuring 15 passengers. They were admitted to the Prince Saud Al-Julawi Hospital in Hofuf.
Another train was sent to the accident location to bring the stranded passengers,” the statement said.
