Vanzara released from Gujarat jail

Ahmedabad, Feb 18 (IANS): Controversial Gujarat police officer D.G. Vanzara was Wednesday released from an Ahmedabad jail.

As Vanzara, 61, a former deputy inspector general of police, came out of the Sabarmati Jail here he was given a hero's welcome by his supporters. He stood up in the open jeep carrying him and waved to the people gathered there.

Interestingly, Maninderjeet Singh Bitta, a former Youth Congress leader and anti-terrorism activist, was accompanying Vanzara in the vehicle.

Vanzara has been released after being granted bail in the Ishrat Jahan case, one of the two fake encounter cases against him, on the condition that he would not enter his home state Gujarat.

In 2014, Vanzara was granted bail in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh murder case. He was arrested in March 2007.
