Meeting of parties called ahead of parliament's budget session


New Delhi, Feb 18 (IANS): Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has called a meeting of various political parties Sunday to ensure smooth functioning of the budget session of parliament which begins Feb 23.

Official sources said that the meeting has been called to seek cooperation of all parties in smooth running of parliament during the budget session.

The Narendra Modi government will present its first full budget during the session. It will also present a rail budget.

The meeting will be attended by Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu and leaders of various parties in Lok Sabha.

The budget session is expected to be stormy with the government seeking to replace the six ordinances promulgated during the inter-session period with bills. Apart from fresh bills, it will also seek to pass some bills pending from the last session.
