US, India hold high level talks on Afghanistan


New Delhi, Feb 19 (IANS): As part of the India-US shared commitment for a secure, stable, and prosperous Afghanistan, US Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Laurel Miller held high level consultations on Afghanistan with Indian officials, civil society members and political party leaders here.

Miller led an interagency delegation to New Delhi from Feb 16-18 to continue high-level US-India consultations on Afghanistan.

The consultations helped advance our shared commitment to regional cooperation on working toward a stable and prosperous Afghanistan, said a US embassy statement Thursday.

President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined in their 2015 Joint Statement, that the US and India share the commitment for a secure, stable, and prosperous Afghanistan. The leaders have repeatedly asserted the importance of a sustainable, inclusive, sovereign, and democratic political order in Afghanistan for the benefit of the entire region, the statement said.
