Mangalore, Jan 21: The skies on Panambur Beach were decorated with colourful kites on the first day of the Beach Festival as part of the Karavali Utsav on Saturday, Jan 20.
The Indian Manja fighter kites to serpents, dragons, Yakshagana and Kathakkali, frogs and the artistic foreign kites set all eyes on the sky.
What drew huge crowds was the presence of four international kiters - Karl Longbottom, Bob Krukshank from England, Marten Van and Frits Groenhart from Holland and Peter Stauffer from Australia.
There were 12 kites from Australia, 9 from Holland and 5 from United Kingdom. Team Mangalore flew their kites.
A ‘Superman’ kite attracted most of the kite lovers at the Beach. The candy drop was performed by a member of Team Mangalore, in which candies are dropped from a kite using tiny parachutes.
The two day festival will end on Sunday, Jan 21.
