11 more die of swine flu in Rajasthan, toll now 202

Jaipur, Feb 19 (IANS): Eleven more deaths due to swine flu were Thursday reported from across Rajasthan, taking the toll in the desert state due to the highly contagious virus to 202 since the start of this year.

A total of 249 new positive cases were reported Thursday, taking the total to 3,897 across the state, a health department official told IANS.

The highest of 34 deaths has been reported from Jaipur, followed by Ajmer with 27.

The state government said it has so far screened over 25.75 lakh patients while door-to-door screening has been conducted on over 24 lakh people.

Ashok Pangaria, head of the task force on swine flu, said Tamiflu tablets have been provided to thousands of people.

Meanwhile, the Congress criticised the state government, saying it should ask private hospitals to conduct free swine flu tests.

"This will help deal effectively with the medical emergency," Rajasthan Congress vice president Archana Sharma said.

The government has already made swine flu tests free in state-run hospitals.
