Panaji, Jan 21: Leona Fernandes from the Department of Zoology, Goa University has been awarded the Gold Medal for obtaining highest marks in Zoology at the M Sc examination held in April 2006.
 
Fernandes secured 70 per cent in the IV semester where she had subjects like Toxicology and Bioassay, Animal Tissue Culture and Dissertation.
 
A student with excellent academic track record, Leona Fernandes had secured highest marks 83.84 per cent among the successful candidates who appeared for B.Sc Zoology examination conducted by Goa University held in March 2004 and was awarded the Late Hirabai V Salgaocar award by the All Goa Association of Zoologists.
 
Hailing from Pedda Grande, Benaulim, Leona Fernandes, who loves music, is the daughter Leo Fernandes an employee of Mormugao Port Trust and Josephine Fernandes who is attached to the electricity department of the government of Goa.
