Odisha: ACP, ASI suspended over CM's security breach

Bhubaneswar, Feb 20 (IANS): An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) have been suspended over an incident of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's security breach, said twin city Police Commissioner R.P. Sharma Friday.

ACP S.K. Sarifuddin and ASI of Kharvela Nagar police station P.K. Sahu have been suspended for dereliction of duty. Both were engaged for Chief Minister's security.

A group of youth Congress activists broke the security cordon and pelted eggs and showed black flags at the chief minister's convoy near Keshari Talkies, while he was on his way to attend the students' union function at Utkal University Thursday.

"There was security lapse. While we had got intelligence input that some miscreants were planning to throw eggs and show black flag at the Chief Minister's convoy, we could not prevent the incident. There was negligence on the part of some police personnel on duty," Director General of Police Sanjiv Marik told media persons.

The police administration Friday took a review meeting to find out the security lapses and take corrective measures in the whole security system of the VVIP carcade, the DGP said.

Meanwhile, it has enhanced the security of Chief Minister.
