Jammu, Feb 20 (IANS): Security forces Friday busted a guerrilla hideout in the hilly Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition, officials said.
Acting on specific information, the Delta Force of the army launched a search operation in Amrai Nala near Chilli and busted the hideout at a natural cave there, a defence spokesman told IANS.
The seized arms included one AK-47 rifle, four 12 bore rifles, one pistol, four AK-47 magazines, two SLR magazines, 150 rounds of AK-47, 100 rounds of assorted ammunition, one Chinese hand grenade.
The arms probably belonged to a hardcore Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist who was active in the past and which could have been hidden for later usage, the official said.
A gun battle in December 2009, that resulted in the elimination of two Hizbul Mujahddin terrorists in the area, showed that the area was infested with terrorists, he said.
"The area due to its remoteness and rugged terrain makes it an ideal location for establishing a hideout. The inclement weather conditions increased the degree of difficulty in approach to the intended target area and subsequent search," the official said.
Apart from the two columns of Rashtriya Rifles, the team also included personnel from police and those of the 42 battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal.
The arms were handed over to police, and a complaint was filed.
