15 missing after boat capsizes in Bengal


Kolkata, Feb 21 (IANS): At least 15 people went missing after an overcrowded boat capsized in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district Saturday, police said.

The mishap occurred on Vidyadhari river in Sandeshkhali in the district.

"The boat carrying around 50 passengers was bound for Sandeshkhali when it capsized. Most of the passengers were rescued or swam to safety but at least 15 of them are still missing. We are carrying out search and rescue operations," sub-divisional police officer (Basirhat) Avijit Banerjee said.
