Howrah, Feb 21: Two youths slashed a mother's neck when she came to the rescue of her daughter whom they tried to molest, late last night at a village here. The mother who was taken to Uluberia Hospital underwent 12 stitches for the ghastly wound that she suffered.
The two women were apparently returning home after watching a late night folk opera, to their residence in Anantapur village when two youths accosted them. The two men were said to be on a bicycle and they approached the two women with the intention of molesting the younger one.
Upon reaching the women the duo tried to blindfold the daughter. When the mother intervened in order to save her daughter, one of the attackers slashed her throat with a sharp weapon. She was taken to a local hospital for immediate medical attention and then transferred to Uluberia Hospital.
While no formal complaint has been registered, the police went ahead with making their enquiries at the home of the two women. The police have also, thus far, refrained from identifying the women concerned.
