Miffed Achuthanandan not to attend CPI-M meet

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 23 (IANS): Disgruntled veteran CPI-M leader V.S.Achuthanandan has expressed his inability to participate in the ongoing party meet here Monday in the light of allegations levelled against him of being an anti-party person.

In a statement issued to the media, Achuthanandan said since his differences with the party still persist, he is unable to attend the concluding day's events in Alappuzha Monday.

"In the party's state secretariat resolution that was passed, I am picturised as an anti-party person. In this light, I feel it improper to attend the last day's conference and will not attend it.

"I have already intimated this to party general secretary Prakash Karat," he said in the statement while thanking the leadership for removing some parts in the report against him and saying that the politburo will look into the rest of the report that is against him.

Achuthanandan also levelled a serious charge against the party leadership regarding the murder of T.P.Chandrasekheran.

The former CPI-M leader was murdered in May 2012 after which the party had come under attack over his death.

"Three party activists were named as accused in the murder and despite several pleas of mine to exclude all the three from the party, only one has been excluded.

"While the other two are not only retained in the party, they have been given posts too. This has caused a dent to the party image," the statement added.

Achuthanandan Saturday walked out of the ongoing party conference. On Sunday night, the CPI-M called him to return to the ongoing party meet for its last day, Monday.

Meanwhile politburo member Sitaram Yechuri, considered close to the veteran leader, has been in touch with Achuthanandan for the last two days.

Yechuri prevailed upon the latter not to conduct his earlier announced press meet, which was to be held at his official residence here at 11 a.m Monday.

An 88-member new state committee has been elected, even though for the first time in several decades Achuthanandan's name does not appear in it. But one seat has been left vacant in the committee.
