Delhi assembly sees clapping, sloganeering on first day

New Delhi, Feb 23 (IANS): Unprecedented scenes were played out on the first day of the new Delhi assembly as excited visitors - mostly families and supporters of the 67 AAP legislators - applauded and raised slogans all through the oath-taking ceremony.

A huge round of applause was given to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as he took oath as well as Speaker Ram Niwas Goyal.

Chants of "Vande Mataram" and "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" kept reverberating at regular intervals.

However, the ceremony was marred by some over-enthusiastic supporters who booed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Vijender Gupta when he criticised the government for not allowing the media inside the Delhi Secretariat.
