Coal India to invest in Odisha power project


Kolkata, Feb 24 (IANS): Coal India Ltd (CIL) Tuesday said it is setting up two thermal power plants of 800 MW each at Sundergarh in Odisha through its subsidiary Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL), investing Rs.11,363.18 crore for the project.

The company's secretary M. Viswanathan, in a filing with the National Stock Exchange said MCL owned Mahanadi Basin Power Ltd will be executing the project.

The world's largest coal producer has approved an initial amount of Rs.1,019 crore to start with the construction.
