Karkala, Jan 25: While people thronged in thousands for first two days of St Lawrence Feast at Attur, the church premises and surrounding almost wore a deserted look on final day on Thursday January 25 morning.

Usually Attur feast receives crowds in big numbers for all three days.  However this year has been an exception on the last day.  It is said that most of the people from far off places did not turn up on Thursday since a state-wide bus and other vehicle strike had been announced earlier.

Though it was announced  in the church on Wednesday that the bus owners had cancelled strike, people were not still willing to take a risk since there was no official announcement from Bus Owners' Association in this regard.

Nevertheless, the feast of Our Lady of Guide was celebrated with pomp on Thursday with Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza of Mangalore offering the festal mass.  Though good numbers of devotees participated in the mass, the stalls outside the church were almost empty.

But it is expected that good number of people may turn up on Thursday afternoon.  For the first time, a mass will be held even at 9 pm on Thursday.  Since tomorrow, that is, January 26 is a public holiday, there are expectations that devotees will throng in huge numbers in the evening.
