'India ahead of several countries in predicting weather'

New Delhi, Feb 25 (IANS): The government Wednesday said India was way ahead of several countries as far as predicting the weather was concerned.

"We are way ahead of several countries in actively predicting the weather," Minister of State for Atomic Energy and Space Jitendra Singh said during question hour in parliament.

Replying to a question from Tathagat Sathpathy of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the minister said India was launching many satellites from foreign countries as it did not have adequate launching pads for heavier satellites.

He, however, at the same time, said: "We can also offer our launching pads to other countries and earn some revenue."
