Pan-India mobile number portability from May 3: Regulator


New Delhi, Feb 25 (IANS): Mobile phone subscribers will now be able to retain their numbers anywhere in the country even if they change their service providers as the telecom regulator will facilitate pan-India mobile network portability (MNP) from May 3 next, an official statement said here Wednesday.

The sector regulator - Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) - has issued 6th Amendment to the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability Regulation, 2009.

On November 3, 2014 the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) had issued amendment to the MNP Licence Agreement. “As per the DoT, the full MNP is to be implemented in the country within a period of 6 months from the date of amendment to the lincences, that is, May 3, 2015,” the statement said.
