Kabul, Feb 25 (IANS): Five Taliban militants were killed as security forces launched cleanup operations in Yamgan district of northern Afghanistan's Badakhshan province Wednesday, an official said.
"Units of police launched mop up operations in parts of Yamgan district early Wednesday morning and so far five Taliban rebels have been killed," Xinhua news agency quoted the deputy to provincial police chief, Abdul Qadir Sayad, as telling reporters.
He added that cleanup operations would last till the eviction of all insurgents from the district.
The security forces, during week-long operations in the neighbouring Tagab district, killed over two dozen insurgents, security officials said.
