Five men sentenced to death for rape in Bangladesh


Dhaka, Feb 25 (IANS): Five men were sentenced to death by a Bangladesh court Wednesday for gang raping a teenaged girl in 2002, media reported.

The court of District and Sessions Judge A.K.M. Abul Kashem in Netrokona district found the five accused -- Shamim, Vikon Rongdi, Tikon Rongdi, Tapash Shema and Roop Miah -- guilty of the crime, bdnews24.com reported.

The convicts were also fined taka 25,000 (around $322) each.

On July 20, 2002, the teenaged girl was abducted and gang raped while she was heading to a relative's house, according to case documents.
