US assists Sri Lanka in de-mining efforts

Colombo, Feb 26 (IANS): The US has donated de-mining equipment for Sri Lanka's war-ravaged northern region, the island nation's government said in a statement Thursday.

Lt. Dave Chesson from the US embassy in Colombo delivered the donated equipment to the Sri Lankan army to assist with the de-mining efforts in the former war-affected areas of the country.

De-mining continues in the country's north as thousands of civilians who were displaced due to the 30-year conflict are looking at being resettled back home.
