Special juvenile police units in every district


New Delhi, Feb 27 (IANS): Every district in the country will have a special juvenile police unit for coordination on children involved in crime, the Lok Sabha was informed Friday.

The purpose of setting up these units is to coordinate and improve police treatment of juveniles.

The units are to be created under section 63(3) of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000, Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi said in a written reply.

The ministry has been requesting the states and Union Territories from time to time to take measures for effective implementation of the JJ Act.
