Indian-origin lawyer barred from work in Singapore

Singapore, Feb 27 (IANS): The Singapore High Court has suspended Indian-origin activist lawyer M. Ravi, 45, from practice and barred him from working until he is medically certified fit to practice, a media report said Friday.

The High Court's decision came Thursday after the Law Society applied to the court to compel him to undergo a medical examination, The Straits Times reported.

Ravi said after the closed-door hearing that the move was discriminatory, unfair and politically motivated in the wake of him announcing his intention to run in the next general election.

He said he would see his psychiatrist Munidasa Winslow, who is currently overseas, next Thursday.

The society's governing council ordered Ravi to stop practising Feb 10, following concerns about his mental health.
