Swine flu toll in Kashmir rises to nine


Jammu, Feb 27 (IANS): The swine flu toll in Jammu and Kashmir rose to nine Friday with two more H1N1 infected patients succumbing, officials said.

The army Friday said a soldier identified as Havildar Dangar Bavan Danbhai who had tested positive for the virus died here Friday.

A local doctor, identified as Bhupinder Singh, who had been shifted for treatment to New Delhi after testing positive also passed away overnight.

As many as 182 people have so far tested positive for the swine flu virus in the Valley, but there have been no more fatalities, while another 30 have tested positive for the virus in the Jammu region.

"There has been no swine flu related death in the Valley during the last 24 hours," Parvaiz Koul, head of pulmonary and general medicine at the super specialty Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar told IANS.
