Modi denounces communalism, says his govt stands for all

New Delhi, Feb 27 (PTI): Breaking his silence in Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today denounced communalism and asserted that his government stood for unity wherein all religions prosper within the framework of the Constitution.

"My government's only religion is 'India first', my government's only religious book is 'Indian Constitution', our only devotion is 'Bharat Bhakti' and our only prayer is 'welfare of all'," he said in Lok Sabha while replying to a debate on President's Address.

He declared that as the Prime Minister, it was his "responsibility" not to allow "anaap shanap (ridiculous) comments in the name of religion.

"Nobody has the right to discriminate on the basis of religion... "No one has the right to take law into his hands," the Prime Minister said.

His statement assumes significance as the government has been under attack over certain communal remarks made by some BJP and Sangh parivar leaders.

"Communalism for political reasons has destroyed the country. Hearts have been broken," Modi said, asking why questions are being "posed to us".

Insisting that "We want all religions to prosper", the Prime Minister said it is possible only in India under its Constitution which has been prepared with the thinking of thousands of years of the country's history.

"This nation full of diversity. We are for unity in diversity, not disunity. All religions should flourish. It is the uniqueness of India because of its Constitution," he said."We want to take the nation forward within the framework of the Constitution," Modi said, adding he saw only the "tricolor" and "no other colour".

Recalling his election rally in Patna in October 2013 which was rocked by serial bomb blasts, Modi said he had then "asked who should Hindus fight with -- with muslims or poverty? I had asked muslims, do you want to fight with hindus or poverty. We have fought enough. Now let us unite and fight against poverty."

Referring to his slogan of 'sabka saath, sabka vikas', he said he sought the cooperation of the opposition also for the benefit of the country.

Why he has not denounced Bhagwats statement on Saint Theresa. He is a very weak leader and got the opportunity of becoming PM because of Congress misrule. Now with AAP in the field his rhetoric's will not work as people already know that there is a huge gap between what he speaks and what he does.

There is a very famous saying that implies that no matter how royal you terat a dog, it chooses to go to the garbage bin and eat shit. Similarly for you people out of his entire speech that lasted more than an hour on nation building, including his equal stand for all Indians, irrespective of their faith, you found only ridiculing him by using his statement for your own interpretations became the highets priority. U people only deserve enslaving colonizers and dynastic parties and not someone who wants every Indian to be empowered. U deserve only as per the level of ur standards & in ur case, to even mock his wonderful speech with this interpration is extremely low and disgraceful.

You had no problems when missionaries opened schools, hospitals and served the poor in the country.
Now that you have mushroomed some organisations and commercial schools and hospital started booming, now you realise that the 2% is slowly growing and this is haunting you.
You had no intentions and will to help the needy and poor children all these years. Now that the governments started development schemes and now you realise that all missionary work was conversion based and the objective is conversion?
All you need is control the Christian held land and buildings, schools and hospitals.
You had no problems when she was alive, now you talk because you are worried of the votes.

People have elected Modi of Bjp n not Modi of RSS to be our prime minister..Modi has to draw a clear line between RSS n BJP...political hindutva n development..if he promotes n practices real dharmic hindutva we dont have any issue n we all muslims are for it but if he follows n practices n promotes political hindutva then we are all against it as its too dangerours for the country as its promotes devision n hate...tears apart our country on ethnic n religious lines n promotes terrorism n chaos n destruction...what we see today n everyday post bjp victory.....Good luck to modi n i pray he shall practice what he preached today...

and people who are now hurt and say RSS chief should not speak his mind, should come up with unanimous resoultion.. "NO ONE FROM OUR FAITH< OUR RELIGION, OUR SOCIAL CRUSADERS be ever questioned, and they are beyond criticism and have reached Godly position.. government should put a ban on free speech".. i mean what ridicuolus demands here by Daiji commentators. yes, when there is a church attack, PM should come and speak on that! but why cant Bhagwat speak his views on mother teresa/? Owaisi says, every indian is a muslim, Jesus was his prophet (which is Blasphemy according to me), another one says Shiva was his saint.. and should Indian PM respond to their statements as well? Hindus dont have their reservation or can not get hurt is it? paaterdna panpar bokka, paateriye! Mr. Prime Minister, you will have to tell your old motorbike buddy while expanding the RSS membership in Gujarat to stop talking highly sensitive subjects to create religious frictions in India. You are well aware of the history of India where religious frictions have taken away thousands of people to eternity, also created more widows and orphans.

Else, the Parliament and the streets will be turning into an hell of frictions and pandemonium.

How many days were wasted in the Parliament touching the topics of conversion and anti-conversion?

Any religion which is interested to help the humanity through noble deeds of charity and good news of peace and happiness, let them do that.

But creating fight using religion can be very dangerous for any country especially for India with all your great dreams to make India as a paradise of prosperity.
