Mangalore, Jan 29: History repeats at Mangalore City Corporation general council meet everytime. The general meet held on Monday January 29 was adjourned as none of the subjects on the agenda were discussed.
Immediately after the mayor Vijaya Arun welcomed the gathering, opposition party member Shankar Bhat stood up and alleged that the meetings are not conducted as per the rules.
“The mayor is blindly passing the agenda without placing it for discussion, which is a violation of the council act. She has been biased and has been listening only to the ruling party,” Bhat complained.
With harsh words, he went on alleging that the mayor was misusing her power.
Heated words made rounds in the council hall when one of the nominated members asked the mayor to acquire appropriate knowledge of the rules of conducting the council meet. Offended by this remark, the mayor asked the member to take back his words.
The members of the opposition party entered the well of the hall shouting slogans against the ‘anti-development ruling party.’ This resulted in adjournment of meeting.
It is indeed a shame to Mangalore that its represented members are involved in unruly behaviour in public and are far away from discharging their responsibility, said a middle-aged man who was standing outside the MCC building
This, being the fourth meeting after Vijaya Arun took over the reigns of MCC wherein no development issues have been discussed. Even in this meeting, the members tore the agenda copy and continued with their usual chaos.
