AAP's internal Lokpal claims two camps, breakdown of trust

New Delhi, Mar 1 (IANS) : Amid reports of internal rumblings in AAP, the party's internal Lokpal, Admiral L. Ramdas (retd) warned of "two camps" and "abject breakdown in trust between topmost leadership" and sought clear signals that all senior party members were united.

In a letter, for the members of the national executive and political affairs committee ahead of party's meeting Feb 26, Ramdas said the party's stunning victory in Delhi polls had raised hopes of restoration of positive energy and that many mutual suspicions would be put to rest.

"Alas, this was not to be, and most recently while in Delhi during the results and swearing in, I also spent many hours in many difficult conversations where many of the old ghosts were constantly raising their heads," said the former navy chief.

Noting he had taken upon himself the role of an "elder statesman" to "nurture AAP and its potential as the only political entity in the country today which can change the way politics is practiced", he said his role was to unambiguously point out mistakes.

He noted "compromises have been evident in many areas -and from all sectors - with no single person exempt from some element of responsibility for the present impasse".

Referring to criticism within party regarding decision-making and democracy, he said it should be analysed by an independent group by an internal audit.

"During the past six to eight months, there has been an abject breakdown in communications and mutual trust amongst the topmost leadership of the party. This has in my view led to the growth of two camps within the party and loose talk about conspiracies," Ramdas said.

"This is unacceptable and shows that we are no different from any of the parties whom we criticise so vocally," he said, urging the party leadership to stop listening to rumours and discourage colleagues continually bringing negative feedback.

In the letter, he also said there was a "crisis situation" ahead of the Delhi elections over party leader Prashant Bhushan's unhappiness with candidate selection and decision-making processes and his threat to resign over the issue.

"To contain this, a special meeting was called in Delhi on January 3-4, where a decision was taken to refer the issue to the AAP Lokpal, assisted by a specially selected team," he said.

In an apparent reference to Arvind Kejriwal, Ramdas asked whether "chief minister of a state and national convenor if she/he be the same person be in a position to discharge both the duties efficiently?" and whether co-convenors were needed.

He also said he has been "aghast at the way in which decisions taken in our meetings were leaked within minutes".

"Every email and letter I have sent out seems to become common knowledge and often has found its way to the media!..We need to discuss whether some form of inner party discipline is required within our own core committees?" he asked.

"The press and media and our opponents are waiting like vultures to rip AAP apart at the slightest hint of rifts and dissension within," he warned.

This issues will be the strength of AAP and I had seen leaders within AAP will raise questions when ever there is mis-management and it will be good for democratic style within party, the moment everybody starts praising what evevr a individual do then the party will collapse within few years, I hope this is good move within AAP and people/leaders do understand the issues. if there is no room for healthy criticism then AAp will not be different than congress and BJP.

Both Kejriwal and Yadav are honest freethinking individuals. It is foolish to expect any two people to think alike leave alone people of this calibre. Not unsurprisingly, a media that sustains itself on glitzy advertising cannot comprehend this. It is through different kinds of thinking that good policies evolve.

Can you substantiate any of these baseless claims? Within brackets you’re saying ‘marriage is her own private affair’ still you are poking your nose into private affair! Using your own logic, similar innuendos can be thrown at Advani, who was born in Karachi, Subramanian Swami, who’s son in law is a Muslim. I know all these statements are ridiculous and hold no water and so is Kavita Ramdas marrying an Pakistani Muslim in United states. Btw, what’s Amit Shah’s superb game? After fighting tooth which went to the extent of PM himself prevaricating about AAP’s 2 Cr midnight transaction (AAP got a clean chit by Delhi HC) finally BJP had to bite the dust! What a game!!!. Now don’t sing the old boring song: ‘true game is Bihar/UP/Assam’.

Geoffery , you only get me to nitpick your innuendos? vhe vhe vhe

Advani is a Pakistnai, but Manmohan is not?

Subramanian swamy's daughter married a muslim, so is Rajdeep sardesai's sister! so what? marriage is internal affair!

my question was never to Indian muslim! My point was a "PAKISTANI MUSLIM"!!! Sania mirza marrying a "MUSLIM" was never a question! marrying a PAKISTANI was an issue..! it could just be me... Pakistan has an evil design infront of our country for time immemorial!

And about Delhi - Yes, if you think BJP is a washout , here and henceforth! good luck to you... I can't prove with quantitative measures!

Differences crop up in any party or organization.
The entity that does good and having peoples backing, factions should realize, infighting is deterrent to realizing the goals they have set while forming.
Media should exercise caution and shouldn't try to enjoy others troubles. Media should understand overall peoples concern.

Media has no other work but try to bring down AAP as much as possible. Statements after statements are being made by Yogendra Yadav that there is no rift but the Media is bent down to publish false news. Instead of publishing the work of the AAP government which has won with thumping majority media is out to criticise AAP. Who the hell is the Media to talk about AAP, where they even sell their conscious. In 15 days of AAP government so much positive action is taking place and it looks like the media is determined to look at the good work done by AAP the other way and publish negative reports of AAP. Has other political parties pocketed the media to do this news of saying "two camps in AAP". In 10 months time the BJP government has done nothing and to divert attention of the BJP's failure media is diverting people's mind with this news. In fact the Finance minister said before election that the INcome tax slab should be increased to Rs. 5 Lakhs benefitting 30 Million people and now it is retained at the same level of Rs. 1.50 Lakhs. So only Jumla and U Turn is taking place in BJP since 10 months. Time for Media to publish the good work done by AAP and criticise them if they don't perform.

who is Admiral Ramdas..? his daughter is a indian face of FORD foundation! and she is married to a Pakistani muslim (though marriage is her own private affair)! but AAP has good sympathy and help from Pakistan! they will be mighty happy ,if this country fails! so, AAP has been succcesful so far to spread its naxxalite agenda! but AMit Shah played superb game, by restricting them to Delhi and making them slog to acheive their promises! ..vhe vhe vhe we all knew, this AAP is not a cadre based or high command based party.. theyr are like those indians during british raaj! "aapase mein jagadenge, jalenge aur raak ho jaayenge"... vhe vhe vhe
