Moin Qureshi granted bail in tax evasion case

New Delhi, March 2 (IANS): A court here granted bail to businessman Moin Ahmed Qureshi on Monday in a case filed by the income tax department for allegedly not disclosing his income of about Rs.20 crore and dodging tax.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Devendra Kumar Sharma granted bail to Qureshi, a meat exporter, and his employee Aditya Sharma. The court asked them to furnish a personal bond of Rs.50,000 each and a surety of like amount.

They appeared before the court after summons were issued against them on January 30. The court ordered them to appear before it on March 2.

The court had taken cognizance of the complaint against them under various provisions of the Income Tax Act, relating to make false statements under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Income tax department Deputy Director Gaurav Pundir filed the complaint through its standing counsel, advocate Brijesh Garg, saying the department has been investigating the matter and questioned Qureshi February 15, 2014, at his residence here.
