Twin explosions kill three in Pakistan

Islamabad, March 2 (IANS): Twin explosions caused by gas leakage killed a woman and her two children in Pakistan on Monday morning, police said.

Three children from the same family were injured in the blast that rocked the entire Hazara community-dominated Marriabad area of Quetta in Balochistan province, Dawn reported.

The gas leakage in Marriabad's Nasirabad and Nadirabad areas caused huge blasts, which led to the death of the woman and her two children in Nadirabad, said a police officer.

However, residents of the area challenged the police claim and said the blasts were not caused by gas leakage, rather they were a result of rocket attacks.

Mirza Hussain, an elected councillor, said two blasts at the same time could not be the result of gas leakage and alleged that they were terror attacks.

"We doubt that two blasts at the same time could be due to gas leakage," Hussain said.

The injured persons were shifted to Benazir Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment.

The blasts destroyed the two houses and smashed the glass panes of nearby buildings.
