Mangalore, Jan 31: The issue of online lotteries in Mulki was the centre of all debates at the monthly meeting convened by the police department to redress the problems of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes here on Tuesday January 30.

The dalits complained that though the officials had promised to do away with lottery from the next fiscal year, there has been a rise in the number of online lotteries in Mulki. They alleged that many of the residents had started the business in their homes and this has been negatively affecting the poor.

Dalit Sangharsha Samiti convener Isu Kumar said that the lottery centres were not only causing problems to the poor, but also disturbing the peace and quiet of the surrounding areas as every evening crowds gather around the centres creating chaos. He also asked the police department to check whether the centres had license to run the business.

Superintendent of police B Dayanand assured them of taking action in this regard.

Among those present at the meeting were additional SP Lokesh Kumar, Puttur ASP Dr Harsha, and deputy SP Harishchandra.
