Mangalore, Jan 31: India and Vietnam have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on extending bilateral cooperation for promotion of cashews, at the Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam recently, stated a press release.

The Indian delegation, led by Cashew Export Promotion Council of India (CEPCI) chairman Walter D’Souza under the ministry of commerce, government of India, signed the MoU after paying a visit to Vietnam’s cashew research stations, plantations and processing units. The delegation comprised of 28 members from six states across India.

The Vietnamese side was headed by Dr Pham Van Bien, President, Vietnam Cashew Association (VINACAS), the release stated.

India has been the leader in the industry accounting for the largest crop-size of about 5.5 lac mts and processing about 11 lac mts. The MoU is significant to the country as India accounts for over 65 % of the total processing in the world.

The MoU is the first of its kind signed by CEPCI at the international level, the release stated.
