10 detained in Turkey for suspected IS links

Ankara, March 2 (IANS): The Turkish police on Monday detained 10 people suspected of having links with the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, media reported.

Police raided several houses in western Sakarya province as part of an operation against IS suspects, Xinhua news agency reported citing private Dogan news service.

In February, six people were arrested over charges of having links with the IS.

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said in February that about 1,000 Turkish militants had joined the ranks of the IS.

Following harsh criticism that it did not do enough to stem the flow of foreign fighters into Syria, Ankara has been beefing up security measures against IS suspects.
