Mangalore, Jan 31: Mangalore Railway station is unfriendly and unsafe for women.

Women passengers travelling or reaching Mangalore Railway station at unearthly hours are finding themselves in an awkward situation as they have been denied of the comfort and safety of an exclusive ‘waiting room’.

Owing to the ongoing remodelling works in Railway station the waiting room for women has been occupied by Station Masters. There are many trains like Link express, Parashuram Express and West Coast reaching Mangalore Station late at night.

On many occasions delayed trains have made women passengers to wait endlessly at odd hours in the station and also forcing passengers to seek shelter in a common waiting room. The safety of women passengers has been thrown to winds in Mangalore Railway Station, women passengers complained.

Though sources from Mangalore Railway Protection Force informed that no cases of any untoward incidents had been registered so far, there are many instances of women who faced difficulties of various kinds while waiting in the common waiting room.
