India, Spain hold foreign office consultations

India and Spain held their third round of foreign office consultations here on Monday during which they held talks on issues of bilateral interest and of global and regional importance.

The Indian delegation was led by Navtej Sarna, secretary (west) in the external affairs ministry, while Igancio Ybanez, secretary of state for foreign affairs of Spain, led the Spanish side.

Both sides also reviewed progress on existing bilateral agreements and discussed the agreements under consideration.

Both also noted increased activity in bilateral relations given the visit of the secretary of state for commerce of Spain in the first week of February, the foreign office consultations, and the forthcoming visits of the Spanish defence minister later this week and of the Spanish foreign minister in April 2015, said an official statement.

Both the sides agreed to further upscale bilateral cooperation given that the year 2016 will mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Spain by organizing high level visits, cultural activities, business exchanges etc., it said.
