Mangalore, Jan 31: Miscreants are said to have broken into the office of 'Karavali Ale' Kannada daily at Bykampady on late Wednesday evening and heavily damaged computers, glass doors etc.

A group of about 30 persons reportedly indulged in the attack. A part of the office was set on fire, said police sources.

'Karavali Ale' is known for its bold and fearless anti-Establishment stand on various issues. However, the motive and identity of the assailants are not yet known.

The Panambur police told Daijiworld that the fingerprints experts and sniffer dog squad have rushed to the spot.

Fire-tenders from Kadri have made a dash to the spot. Further details are awaited.

Media sources have expressed shock over the attack on the freedom of the Press. Whatever differences of opinion anyone may have, they had to be sorted out by civil and democratic ways, and not by any violent means, commented a senior journalist.
