Bali to prepare two convicted Australians for ution

Canberra, March 3 (IANS): An Indonesian prosecutor on Tuesday said that he would transfer two Australian convicts out of Bali prison in preparation for their execution.

Andrew Chan, 31, and Myuran Sukumaran, 33, were sentenced to death for smuggling 8.3 kg of heroin from Indonesia to Australia in 2005.

Prosecutor Momock Bambang Samiarso is charged with the responsibility of transferring Chan and Sukumaran to an island prison off Java to face a firing squad, ABC reported.

So far, all plans Indonesian officials have announced for the execution have been delayed.

The two convicts were due to be taken away to the island last month before the move was postponed.

Momock has said that he has an order to transfer them this week, and plans to do so tonight (Tuesday) or Wednesday night.

Lawyers for Chan and Sukumaran are still attempting a legal appeal, but the Indonesian government has said that nothing could stop the execution.

President Joko Widodo has again lashed out at foreign intervention over the death penalty in Indonesia.
